Works are under way to breathe life into Werribee’s central business district.
Wifi hotspots will take Station Place and Wedge Street Piazza global, while three-phase electricity in Station Place and Kelly Park will mean public activities and events can be run there year-round.
The works are spearheaded by Wyndham council and the Wyndham Business and Tourism Association.
Council’s director of city economy, innovation and liveability Peter McKinnon said a number of key initiatives were being rolled out in the CBD.
“Activation works include a winter event last week in the CBD and Friday music sessions that take place in Station Place and Watton Street,” Mr McKinnon said.
Adding car parking spaces in Cherry Street will be a part of the project to rejuvenate central Werribee, he said.
Mr McKinnon also listed the mural installation on the wall of the Wyndham Cultural Centre, solar lights in the trees along Watton Street, and lighting and laneway murals in Station Place as parts of “activation” works.
“All of this will, of course, be completed by the redevelopment of Chirnside Park and the Wyndham Park works.”
Wyndham Business and Tourism Association president Nick Christou said the CBD had a lot of potential.
“We’ve got a population that’s expected to grow significantly,” he said.
“We’ve got all the space in the world so we need to create a space that’s truly awesome … a space for everyone.”
