Gifts give big-hearted cheer

By Ewen McRae

The Brimbank Giving Tree has returned – but time is running out for residents to contribute their Christmas season donations.

The program provides opportunities for residents to donate gifts of non-perishable goods to help local people who may be struggling at this time of the year.

With the program wrapping up on December 12, Brimbank mayor Lucinda Congreve said every donation was crucial.

“This is a great way for community members, organisations and council staff to get involved and provide some practical assistance to people who may be feeling an additional strain as Christmas approaches,” Cr Congreve said.

“Next time you’re out shopping, please consider picking up some items to donate to the program.

“Council is working with local agencies to distribute the donations where the help is most needed.

“We’re making it as convenient as possible
to drop off items at 18 locations across Brimbank.

“Brimbank is a proud, vibrant, welcoming, and thriving multicultural community.

“But we also represent the second most socio-economically disadvantaged municipality in greater Melbourne and the third most disadvantaged in Victoria.

“The Giving Tree program is one of the ways our whole community can get behind a worthy cause and provide support that’s much needed.”

Suggested items for donation include tinned beans, rice, vegetable oil, rolled oats, canned fruit or vegetables, packet soups, canned tuna in water, tea and coffee.

For drop-off location details, visit brimbank.vic.gov.au/givingtree or call 9249 4000.
