Five groups are competing for approval to establish a major shopping complex in Werribee. Four applications are for sites around Hoppers Crossing while the fifth is for an extension of the Werribee Central area.

July 20, 1988

The Werribee Unit of the State Emergency Service has received only $256 from the State Government during the past two years and is facing problems meeting its expenses, according to a council report. Werribee councillor Pat Goodwin is outraged by the report and said the State Government is neglecting the volunteer rescue group.

Wyndham council is developing a strategy to curb a growing trend of problem gambling affecting the city. The council’s social development co-ordinator, Mr Scott Trembath, said the council was concerned at the impact that electronic gaming machines (EGMs) were having on the city and the amount of money leaving Wyndham through them.
