Werribee River Trail bike access upgraded

CYCLING links around Werribee will be improved thanks to state government funding to upgrade the Werribee River Trail.

Wyndham Council was given $200,000 to improve the trail as part of the government’s community works program.

The project will link Cottrell Street with Wyndham Park and provide safe pedestrian and bicycle access between the two areas.

Western Metropolitan Liberal MP Andrew Elsbury said the link would make it easier for people to walk or cycle along the river trail.

Wyndham Bicycle Users Group members welcomed the funding, saying a track between Cottrell Street and Wyndham Park was long overdue.

Christine Morris said the project meant more cyclists would be able to reach the river park without worrying about riding on gravel or mud.

“I cycle with a lot of girls on road bikes and they won’t go down there because they are unsure of cycling on the gravel. It will make it more accessible and more enjoyable.”

Ms Morris said the path would also make it easier for cyclists to reach the other side of the freeway without having to use Duncans or Sneydes roads.
