Werribee CFA warming up for world contest

WERRIBEE’S CFA road rescue team is out to prove it’s the best in the world.

The team, which is made up of volunteers from the Werribee and Wyndham Vale CFAs, will compete in the World Rescue Challenge in London next week.

It won a place at the challenge after finishing first at the national titles in New Zealand last year.

Rob Mitchell, Michael Wells, Lino Zulian, Adrian Kendall, Mark Mummery, Phil Menzies and Trevor Weston will test their rescue techniques in a series of events at the three-day competition.

Teams will be assessed on their control and command of a situation, medical response and the length of time taken to complete the rescue.

As reported by the Weekly, the Werribee road rescue team was called to 52 motor vehicle accidents in the five months to September this year.

Mr Wells said the competition would improve the team’s ability to respond to accidents in Werribee.

While nervous about representing Australia at the championship, he said the team had trained hard.

“It has taken us 10 years of training together to get to this level . . . we have won many competitions and placed exceptionally high, which is reward for all of the hard work we’ve put in.”
