ADELE Hegedich knows cancer will creep into everyone’s lives one way or another.
Friends and family who are healthy one day could be having chemotherapy and battling for survival the next.
With this in mind, Ms Hegedich will take part in a Girls Night In on Friday as part of a campaign by the Cancer Council Victoria which encourages women to get together and raise money for research.
While cancer has never personally affected the 29-year-old, Ms Hegedich remains committed to the cause.
The idea to host the night was developed at a meeting of the Point Cook Heart Link Network, a business group for women to meet and make new friends.
“The first time I just gathered a couple of friends to catch up and have a drink,” Ms Hegedich says.
“All of us have a responsibility to participate in events that can help the community unite and move forward.”
Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women in Australia. One in nine will develop breast cancer. By 2015, 15,409 Australian women are expected to be diagnosed with breast cancer every year — an average of 42 a day.
The event is at The Brook on Sneydes, 215 Sneydes Road, Point Cook from 7pm to midnight.
