A NEW Hoppers Crossing-based exercise program aims to help those with chronic illnesses get into shape.
Heartmoves, which has been developed by the Heart Foundation, provides a fun, social and safe way to get moving again. Classes will be held at the Wyndham Leisure and Events Centre every Tuesday between 2-3pm from October 16.
Heart Foundation chief executive Kelly-Ann Jolly said while the program was designed for those with chronic conditions such as diabetes and joint problems, it was open to everybody.
“It’s also suitable for people who haven’t exercised for a long time,” she said.
“Heartmoves focuses on delivering safe, low-to-moderate intensity exercise incorporating gentle aerobic activity, weight-bearing or resistance exercise and stretching – all of which help to build strength and improve balance.”
Wyndham Leisure and Events Centre health club manager Brendan Evans said regular exercise was one of the keys to maintaining good health. “Joining a Heartmoves program and participating regularly can help manage risk factors for heart disease like blood pressure and cholesterol and can also improve general wellbeing and quality of life,” he said.
