Witnesses sought to two-car crash
Police are appealing for witnesses to a collision at Laverton North yesterday which left a man fighting for his life. A silver Mitsubishi van and a maroon Toyota Rav 4 collided on the outbound lanes of the Princes Highway about 8.30am, causing the van to veer off the road and crash into a tree. The sole occupant of the Mitsubishi, a Greenvale man, 52, was taken to The Alfred with critical injuries. The driver of the Toyota, a Tarneit man, 38, was not injured and is assisting police with their inquiries. Information to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Man fined for selling prohibited weed
A Hoppers Crossing man has been fined $1000 after being found guilty of propagating, transporting and selling a prohibited weed. The man appeared in Geelong Magistrates Court last month after Department of Primary Industries officers caught him selling water hyacinth, a prohibited weed. Officers seized 43 plants from the man’s market stall, while another 103 plants were removed from his house.
Family, cat rescued from blaze
A family of five escaped unharmed after their Werribee house went up in flames last Tuesday. Firefighters were called to the house in Dongala Drive about 3.45pm. The blaze was controlled in 15 minutes. A firefighter wearing breathing apparatus saved a cat from the burning house.
