Two injured in early-morning brawl
A Truganina teenager was one of two men stabbed during a pre-dawn brawl near the intersection of Queen Street and Flinders Lane, Melbourne, about 5am last Saturday. Paramedics rushed the 19 year old to The Alfred with serious wounds and an Ascot Vale man, 20, was taken to Royal Melbourne Hospital. Police arrested a Cheltenham man, 26, and an Ascot Vale man, 27, at the scene. A Springvale South man, 24, was also arrested and is assisting police with inquiries. Forum to form a soccer club
Truganina residents will soon have the chance to play one of the world’s most popular sports in their neighbourhood. Wyndham Council, Football Federation Victoria and Truganina United Soccer Club will hold a forum from noon on Sunday, September 23 to discuss formation of a soccer team to be based at the Forsyth Road soccer facility, next to Arndell Park Community Centre. Sports centre redevelopment
Werribee Sports and Fitness Centre users can find out more about the centre’s $47 million redevelopment next week. Wyndham Council will hold an information session on September 20 when artists’ impressions will be on display. Council staff and consultants will be on hand to answer questions. The proposed expansion includes 12 extra basketball courts, a cafe, creche, gymnasium and external netball courts. The information session is from

Cut grass and keep blocks clean
Wyndham Council has reminded owners of vacant land to maintain their blocks or face a fine. The council will begin inspecting blocks this month to ensure grass and undergrowth is no higher than 15 centimetres high and the land is clear of rubbish. Business services manager Tony Addley said maintaining vacant blocks was a matter of public safety and community pride. “Vacant blocks with tall grass and rubbish pose a fire hazard in the warmer months and are a haven for pests and snakes. They also create a negative perception for visitors and neighbours.”
