WERRIBEE Open Range Zoo has welcomed its newest addition, a baby camel born before a crowd of visitors on Sunday.
Zookeepers named her Aloe, after aloe vera plants, which are among camels’ favourite treats. They said it was an early birthday present for the zoo, which celebrated its 29th birthday on Monday.
Eleven baby camels have been born at the zoo since it was opened in 1983. The last calf, Amy, was born in August last year. Aloe is on display with mother Lucie in the zoo’s upper savannah.
