Incoming council has ‘tough road ahead’

WYNDHAM’S outgoing councillors have warned the next council will face many challenges, including lobbying the state government to duplicate the city’s choked arterial roads.

Councillors last week used their end of term report to reflect on their achievements over the past four years and highlight issues the next council will face.

Councillors considered the creation of more parks and open spaces, the construction of new libraries and a boost to kindergarten places as their greatest achievements.

Cr Heather Marcus said the council had delivered about 25 upgrades to open areas and sporting facilities and increased its focus on open spaces, proving its commitment to the environment.

Cr John Menegazzo said a highlight was the creation of a 10-year program to ensure the council remained financially sustainable without having to increase rates above the state average.

Former Point Cook Action Group president Bernard Reilly said while the council had spent a lot of money on projects around Point Cook, he would have liked the duplication of Sneydes Road to have started sooner than this year.
