MELBOURNE’S west is the fastest growing metropolitan area in the country and the Western Region Football League is going to tap into it even further with the launch of two new expansion clubs in 2013.
The WRFL, in conjunction with Wyndham Council and AFL Victoria, has revealed two junior clubs will be established in the suburbs of Manor Lakes and Sanctuary Lakes to be admitted into the competition in 2013.
WRFL chief executive officer Bob Tregear said the significant growth in the west had resulted in a large demand for new junior sporting clubs.
“The large growth of the Sanctuary Lakes and Point Cook population, together with council provision of new facilities and large numbers of children participating in Auskick, indicates that a new football club in this area will be a welcome addition to the community.
“Junior sporting clubs are a fundamental part of each community, and it is important as a league that we help develop our local communities and facilitate the establishment of sporting clubs within these new estates.”
The new football clubs are in the process of trying to attract new junior players, club committee members and volunteers to ensure a successful start-up.
Anyone keen to get involved in any role with either club can register their interest by calling WRFL club development officer Tim Shellcot on 93155400 or by email at t.shellcot
