Police find $40k in fake cash at Laverton

POLICE found more than $40,000 in fake cash when looking into reports of a car theft in Laverton last night.

While asking about reports of stolen vehicles about 10pm, they found a counterfeit currency operation at a house in Creswick Street, Laverton, police said.

Police seized about $43,500 in counterfeit cash, an alleged stolen car and a motorbike.

A Tarneit man, 35, was charged with theft and handling stolen goods among a number of offences.

He was released on bail and will appear in the Werribee Magistrates Court in November.

A Hoppers Crossing man, 36, was also charged with manufacturing and producing counterfeit money and was expected to appear at the Sunshine Magistrates Court today.
