VAFA: Warriors’ big win avoids the spoon

OLD Westbourne Grammarians snapped a seven-game losing streak in the best possible way with a 53-point thrashing of Albert Park in the Victorian Amateur Football Association division 3 at the Westbourne School Ground on Saturday.

The Warriors were hellbent on making their last home game of the season a memorable one and produced their best footy of the season for their long-suffering fans.

They racked up a massive 35 scoring shots en route to a third win that sees them avoid the dreaded wooden spoon.

Troy Whiting featuring prominently for the Warriors with four goals, and Matthew Graham, Matthew Watson and Scott Kidd were the other standouts.

Werribee Districts had a severe case of the goalkicking yips in Premier B.

The Tigers went down by 39 points to Beaumaris at Soldiers Reserve on Saturday after kicking themselves out of the game.

The home side managed to turn just four of 21 scoring shots into goals, which included seven straight behinds in the opening term.

Matthew Dean, Lachlan Patterson and Wayne Pelar were the Tigers best on the day.

Point Cook forward Brendan Lucas booted six goals in his side’s 96-point mauling of North Bruns-

wick away at Allard Park.
