Wyndham Business Awards: Stage is set for major celebration

BEING part of an industry that celebrates life was a big incentive for Neil and Karin Playford to establish their hire and event management business.

The husband-and-wife team are now part of another celebration. Stage Scene has been nominated as a Wyndham Business Awards finalist in the new and emerging microbusiness category sponsored by Negatis.

Ms Playford says they’re thrilled with the nomination.

“Since arriving from Brisbane where Neil worked for five years in a stage hire business, we’ve met lots of other business owners in the area.

“To be considered alongside them, especially those that have been around for a long time, is something we’re chuffed about. The awards are great for small businesses such as ours because they give us the chance to get the word out to locals and to explain what we’re about.”

Interacting with the community is the most pleasurable aspect of running their business. “Just getting to know people is something we both enjoy – and being able to help people out by keeping prices low and solving any logistical problems.

“When things are busy it can be a challenge to juggle dates to give clients their preferred outcome, but if we can’t oblige, we’ll provide referrals to other suppliers.”

The Playfords are committed to ‘being green’ in their professional and personal lives.”We’re investigating making our own biodiesel to transport our equipment, can arrange carbon offsets for our stage transport, and offer discounts to local and environmental non-profit organisations.

“In our personal lives, we grow some our food organically, buy organic produce and shop ethically. We get involved in local activities such as cleaning up our waterways.”

Details, visit stagescene.com.au or call 0425709047. Business award winners will be announced at a gala dinner on Friday.

The Weekly will have a comprehensive coverage and photo gallery next week.
