London 2012: Ivo Dos Santos beaten by Britain’s Oates

WERRIBEE’S Ivo Dos Santos made a hastier-than-expected exit from the men’s under 66kg judo competition at the London Games on Sunday.

The Wyndham competitor could not overcome Great Britain favourite Colin Oates, who was cheered on by a partisan home crowd.

Dos Santos, 26, did himself no favours, gifting a point to Oates for two non-combative penalties, before Oates doubled his lead with a perfectly executed throw.

Dos Santos told his friends and supporters on Facebook after the loss that he gave it his all, but failed to adhere totally to his pre-bout plans.

“I don’t know exactly how to say this,” he said. “I gave Colin Oates 100per cent of my body, heart and soul and 95per cent of my brain.

“He’s a great player, but if I had stuck with my game plan the whole fight, I could have beaten him.”

Dos Santos reserved a special mention for the time and effort put into planning his assault on the game by the Australian judo coaches.

The last local hope on the judo mat is Little River’s Mark Anthony, and he will be in action tonight.
