Balla’s gloves turn golden

HOPPERS Crossing-raised boxer Qamil Balla rocked the Melbourne Pavilion with his fists of fury on Friday night, as Michael Copp’s picture shows.

Balla, the brother of soon-to-be Olympian Ibrahim, enjoyed a first professional win in the light welterweight division by technical knock out over South Australian Justin Medoro.

The victory keeps Balla undefeated in two fights, following a draw in his debut bout with Allan Jay Tuniacao back in May.

The cream of Australian women’s boxing also triumphed on the night with Lauryn Eagle and Susie Q Ramadan both claiming their bouts.

Eagle overpowered Thai opponent Kiangsak Sithsaithong with a fifth-round TKO to claim the WBF super featherweight title.

Ramadan also left with a belt after beating another Thai, Usanakorn Kokietgym in a unanimous decision to claim the WBC Women’s bantamweight title.
