Wyndham Vale ‘gaps’ open to burglars

BURGLARS have targeted houses in Wyndham Vale, with four properties broken into over three days.

Houses in Boucaut Street, Bursill Court and Narung Way were broken into between June 22-24.

Police said thieves gained entry to the properties in Boucaut Street and Bursill Court by smashing in windows.

A sliding window in the Narung Way house was opened with a screw driver.

Police said a laptop and money were taken from the Boucaut Street property. A car was stolen from the garage of the Narung Way house. It was later found nearby. It was not known if anything was taken from homes in Bursill Court.

As reported by the Weekly, residential burglaries have increased 23per cent since last year.

The latest Victoria Police crime statistics showed more than 1500 burglaries were reported in Wyndham between April 2011 and March this year.

Wyndham’s Inspector Cindy Millen identified residential burglaries as a key issue for police. Operation Lockdown which ran in the city in April and May, was designed to drive down burglaries, she said.

Crime prevention officer, Leading Senior Constable Craig McDonald, said people needed to identify any security gaps in homes. “Too many people don’t take action on obvious and visible security problems such as faulty locks, security doors, sensor lights, grills on windows and smoke detectors,” Leading Senior Constable Craig McDonald said.

Information to Crime Stoppers on 1800333000.
