WYNDHAMVALE achieved the unthinkable by keeping the Laverton Magpies scoreless in Western Region Football League division 2.
The first time “clean sheet” was mentioned by Falcons players at Laverton Park on Saturday was at the three-quarter-time huddle.
Falcons forward Nathan Evans said it was only the backline players who spoke about creating that rare piece of history.
“It was not an option for us until three-quarter-time. Then it was purely spoken about by the backline. That was really the only time we talked about a clean sheet,” he said.
The final score was an embarrassing one for the home side, 17.20 (122) to 0.0 (0).
Time and again the Falcons smashed the opposition out of the middle.
They were led by Devan Ellis, Cameron Barillaro and Aaron Fleming and one only had to look at the thick layers of mud on their jumpers after the game to appreciate their impacts at the stoppages.
The rare times the Magpies took the ball inside their 50 they were easily repelled.
“They would’ve had a dozen inside 50s,” Evans said.
The Falcons were wasteful in front of goal, converting fewer than 50 per cent of their shots but they were still able to improve their percentage by a whopping 31 points.
Michael Lubke, who booted 17 goals the week before, continued his stunning form with six majors since returning from injury.
The power forward has 36 goals in four games and is stalking the leading goalkickers.
Dean Cachia booted four majors and player-coach Luke Dennerley returned from injury and jagged a goal.
