Victorian AFL legends will be hoping to square the ledger for the state against the All-Stars when they pull on the boots for the EJ Whitten Legends Game next Tuesday night.
Newport favourite Mick Martyn (pictured), who chalked up 300 games with North Melbourne and Carlton before injury ended his career in 2003, said the game was a great event for families to enjoy.
He can’t wait to hit the turf at Etihad Stadium alongside 50 other AFL greats in the 17th staging of the annual state of origin clash.
“The atmosphere is always great; you get 20-odd thousand people out there and it’s just a really good night.”
The games are played in memory of AFL legend Ted Whitten, who died in 1995 after losing his battle with prostate cancer.
Money raised from the night goes to the EJ Whitten Foundation to assist prostate cancer research.
“It’s a very colourful night with a lot of great characters,” Martyn said.
Joining him on the field will be
Wayne Carey and Anthony Koutoufides, along with Peter Everitt, David Wirrpanda, Tarkyn Lockyer and Tadhg
Kennelly.
Keep your eyes peeled too for Warwick Capper, basketball legend Chris Anstey, 2012 Stawell Gift winner Matt Wiltshire and champion boxer Danny Green.
Gates open at 6pm for pre-game entertainment before the game kicks off at 7.30pm. Tickets: adults $17, concession $9, children aged six and under free, family $46.
