POINT Cook’s Wayne Quilliam explores the idea of ‘home’ in his latest exhibition.
Looking beyond the bricks and mortar, the indigenous photographer’s works aim to provoke questions about what home means. “Is home where we come from or where we are?” he says. “Can we make a home in a place far from our origins? Is a sense of home connected to a relationship to landscape and belonging?”
Quilliam says the questions are important, with non-indigenous Australians having come from across the globe for centuries to make a new home, and indigenous Australians having been dispossessed from their traditional lands. Home is open at the Wyndham Cultural Centre and closes August 5.
