GDNL: Werribee Centrals goal blitz seals win

WERRIBEE Centrals netballers bounced back from a huge loss last week to account easily for Bannockburn in Geelong and District Netball League A grade.

Buoyed by the return of co-captain Mickayla Ward in goals, Centrals were able to overcome a slow start to win 54-25.

Ward’s return gave the Centrals another goaling combination. She worked well with Jenni Gardner and Rebecca Lally and scored 30 goals.

Danielle Stewart, who provided plenty of strong drive down the court, was best on court.

The Centrals B grade side capitalised on an early lead to win 36-27.

Renee Di Gioacchino scored 20 and Alyce Daniels was named the best.

Centrals C grade team played the match of the day as it drew with Bannockburn, 35-all.

The Centrals started strongly and were consistent through the first half, with Kyrstie Smith and Michelle Hunter providing plenty of drive.

Kim Genge swapped from goals to the defence at half-time to try to stem the fast shooters, but Bannockburn stepped up the pace enough to draw.

Genge was the best for Centrals.

The Centrals under-17 side also won, but the D grade team and under-15 sides both went down.
