FFV: Werribee City Bees’ winning streak comes to end

WERRIBEE City’s winning streak came to an end after a 2-2 draw against North Geelong last Saturday.

In their first season in Men’s State League division 1 it’s been a slow start to the season for the Bees who have struggled to adjust to the tempo of the higher grade.

After taking six weeks to get off the mark, the Bees had won their previous two matches before facing North Geelong, which was yet to lose a match.

Speaking before the match, Bees coach Nino Ragusa said it was pleasing to finally get the scores on the scoreboard.

“It’s been a bit of a slow start and we have taken our time to adjust to the higher level.”

“Our first win [against then top side Sunshine George Cross] was good as we were able to take it the top side.

“Our next match against St Albans we played even better and the 3-0 flattered the opposition, we in control right from the start.

He said as the season went on he expected the side to play more consistent football.

“The team is new and it takes time to get used to the higher level and the speed of the game.

“Most of the side is inexperience at this level and are in their early 20s.

“Most of our senior players have been out injured, so it’s been the younger guys doing the job.

“We were expecting them to click at some stage and they have.”

Ragusa said the big test confronting City over the next few weeks would be facing North Geelong, Bulleen and Pascoe Vale who are all undefeated sat this stage.

“This is the bigger test, what we can do over the next three weeks.

“We want to continually improve and play consistent football and pick up the results we want.”
