A SEVEN-goal second term was enough for the Western Jets to beat Geelong in the TAC Cup.
Coach Steve Kretiuk said it was good to be back on the park on Sunday as the Jets ran out for their first match in three weeks.
“It’s been a long time between drinks and we had six changes from our last game. We were mostly happy with our game, which was pretty even across the match.
“They led at quarter-time, then we kicked seven goals in the second term.
“We stayed true to our game plan and goals and put in an effort for four quarters, which we haven’t been doing.” Kretiuk highlighted the performances of forwards Spencer White and Ashlin Brown. Spencer kicked four goals and Ash kicked five in 2.5 quarters.
“If he’d played the whole game up forward he could have kicked more.”
Brown was moved to defence to steady the side, Kretiuk said.
“We got caught out down our back with Brody Mahoney kicking four goals and our guys couldn’t go with him. Ash is flexible and he shored things up like he usually does when he goes down back.”
He said Brown’s confidence was high, after being best on field for Vic Metro in the under-18 championships.
Kretiuk praised the efforts of Hoppers Crossing youngster Scott Greenhough in his first match.
“Scott came in and gave us structure. He’s only 192cm and his opponent was 203cm, but he was still winning the taps. He reminds me of Majak Daw, but with more of an engine.”
Kretiuk said players were looking forward to playing at home for the first time in two years, against the Northern Knights on June16.
