Big V: Werribee Devils smash ladder leader Mildura

THE Werribee Devils put on a shooting display when easily accounting for Mildura in their top-of-the-table clash in the Big V men’s Terril conference division 1 clash on Saturday night.

Despite being on top of the ladder and at their home court, the Heat had no answers for the Devils who shot at more than 50 per cent from the field for the first three quarters.

The Devils’ shooting percentage dropped in the final term, but they had done enough to be 29-point winners, 94-65. The Devils started the better of the two teams with the first quarter

setting the tone for the rest of the match.

Coming off a lose, the Devils scored 32 points in the opening term, opening up a 16-point lead at the first break.

The Heat raised the pressure in the second term, lifting their shooting percentage to 45 per cent for the term.

But it didn’t worry the Devils who them-

selves hit 11-of-19 from the field and including 100 per cent beyond the arch for the term, to have them shooting at over 50 per cent for the first half. The Devils’ shooting display continued in the third term, as they pushed out to an 82-47 lead going into the final term.

With such a big lead, the Devils took the opportunity to share the workload with all 12 players getting on the court, with nine players scoring.

Jordan Hughes with 23 points, Cirkook Riak with 18, Kristian Rocci with 14 and Mark Rizza with 11 all made double figures. Despite the loss, Mildura stays on top of the ladder.

The Devils division 2 women’s side had a much closer battle, going down by two points to Western Port.

In a close game all night, the Devils weren’t able to make the most of their shooting opportunities, having had 20 more field goal attempts, including 26 from the three-point line.

Tarhnie Brown, Jacqueline Silcock, Saratu Isha and Briana Pastore all scored double figures.

The men’s side faces Latrobe City on Sunday and the women’s side meets Blackburn on Saturday night.
