UNDERSTANDING the laws of the land, and the rules of the road, are crucial for refugees adapting to life in Australia. Rajinder Kaur, Regina Deng, Tsehaynesh Tsediku and Kidan Woldeu (pictured) were among those who took part in a free Consumer Affairs Victoria expo at Victoria University’s Werribee campus to learn about the responsibilities of owning and driving a car.
The expo included information sessions and role-playing activities, ticking off the finer points of car sales, registration and licensing, road laws, fines and fees and emergency responses.
Justice Department director of community operations Clare Morton said understanding specific laws often proved a challenge to anyone who moved to a new country.
