THE two times Werribee Districts have won in the Victorian Amateur Football Association Premier B this season, they have converted their scoring shots at a better than 50 per cent rate.
The two times the Tigers have lost this year, they have shot themselves in the foot with poor kicking for goal, equating to a worse than 50 per cent return.
When the Tigers booted 12.13 – a return of 48 per cent – against Ajax at Soldiers Reserve on Saturday, only one result would be possible and it came in the form of a single-digit loss for the Tigers. The big turning point came in the third quarter after the Tigers held an eight-point half-time lead.
Ajax came out firing after the long break, banging on six of the eight goals for the third term and taking the game well away.
The newly promoted Tigers once again showed their competitiveness as they refused to roll over and made for a grandstand finish.
Matthew Dean, Jonathan De Pellegrin and Lachlan Patterson never stopped trying to get the Tigers back in the game when all appeared lost, while Brent Morrow (four goals) and Chris Molivas (three) kept the scoreboard ticking over.
Come the final siren, however, the Tigers were left to rue the one that got away.
In division 3, Old Westbourne Grammarians are struggling to find a way to goal with their opening month blighted by small scores.
The Warriors, who were served well by Paul Hudson, Kris Miller and Duncan Benn, managed just seven majors in a 27-point loss to Aquinas at the Westbourne School Ground on Saturday.
In division 4, Point Cook continued its fine form with a 33-point win over Swinburne University at the Point Cook Oval, led by three-goal star Jordan Lampi.
