POINT Cook issued an ominous warning that its best football is still to come in the Victorian Amateur Football Association division 4.
The Bulldogs bounced back from a heavy season-opening loss to early pacesetter South Mornington with crushing back-to-back victories over the past two rounds.
Bulldogs coach Daniel Fraser said his side’s latest 92-point win over Chadstone at the Point Cook Oval on Saturday was a glass-half-full display with plenty of room for improvement.
“We’ve got a couple of runs on the board in the last couple of weeks, which is good, but we’ve got to find more consistency and win four quarters of footy,” he said.
“Our best footy has been some good footy, we’re just not doing it for long enough and once we get four quarters together, we’re going to be a pretty formidable side this year.
“We’re winning games playing half a game of footy and we’re not content with that as a group.”
The Bulldogs were a touch lucky to be leading by three goals at the main break. The advantage had plenty to do with their sharp shooting.
Still, Fraser was not content with the scoreboard, giving his players an old-fashioned spray at half-time.
His players responded with 13 of the last 15 goals of the match to finish with 40 scoring shots and a percentage-boosting win.
Power forward Aaron Marsh was back to his best for the Bulldogs, with seven goals to make it 15 for the year.
Marsh, the focal point of the Bulldogs since their inauguration as a senior club, is starting to get better assistance in the goalkicking department from his crumbing forwards and inside 50 interloping midfielders.
Andrew Auciello, Danny Sidwell and Mark Pozzuto all chipped in with three apiece, while Ricky Munn, Travis Cassidy and Troy Wilson added two each.
“We’ve been a bit Aaron Marsh-conscious the past couple of years so it’s good to have a spread and not relying on him so much,” Fraser said.
“We’ve got a few crumbers up there doing a good job for us, we’ve also got a few bigger bodies through the midfield who are kicking goals, it gives us an extra dimension going forward.”
Not for the first time this season, Tristan Furr was best on ground for the Bulldogs for his work around the stoppages, while Jake Rogers, a product of the Point Cook junior system, was tight checking at half-back and Irishman Keith Kavanagh looked the goods in the ruck.
