WRFL: Glenorden’s injuries hurt bad

GLENORDEN coach Nick Diker has walked under a ladder or confronted a black cat at some point since the start of the Western Region Football League division 2 season.

The Hawks have a massive injury list and it came to a head in a cringeworthy 103-point loss to a red-hot Yarraville-Seddon at Yarraville Oval on Saturday.

Diker feels as though the mounting casualties robbed his side of any chance to compete for four quarters against the pacesetting Eagles.

The Hawks had four players who could not return at half-time and another two played though injured.

Suffice to say, this weekend’s bye has come at the right time for the Hawks.

“It’s killing us,” Diker told the Weekly. “Injuries are just taking their toll. From our round one team to now, there’s 12 different guys. I recruited a lot of depth to the club but it’s getting sorely tested at the moment.”

The Hawks were competitive in general play in the first half, even if the scoreboard showed otherwise. The Eagles opened up a match-winning lead of 37 points at the main break, despite inside 50s being even and only two extra scoring shots. “They took their chances and we didn’t, plain and simple,” Diker said.

The Hawks’ spirit was broken come the second half and the home side made them pay with 15 of the last 20 goals of the game.

Nathan Schmidt was the best player on a dirty day for the Hawks.

Wyndhamvale forward Dean Cachia regained his touch in front of goal with six majors in a 177-point shellacking of Braybrook at Wyndhamvale Reserve.
