Charitable vision for those in need

WYNDHAM residents can donate old, and unwanted, prescription glasses to a Lions club program helping to improve the eyesight of people living in some of the world’s poorest countries.

Recycle for Sight aims to collect 500,000 pairs of glasses from across Australia to be donated to people in Timor Leste, Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Zambia, Tanzania, Sri Lanka and the Solomon Islands.

Glasses will be sorted by prescription, and cleaned before being distributed to children and adults with vision problems. Werribee Funerals is Wyndham’s designated drop-off point.

Branch manager Steve Moss (pictured) says glasses will make a big difference to the lives of those unable to afford to buy them.

“Most people update frames every couple of years to change their look, but now, instead of storing the old pair, donate them to a program that ensures they’re put to good use and helping someone achieve a better quality of life.” Glasses can be left at 11 Greaves Street, Werribee.
