Police warn: Lock it, or lose it

WERRIBEE residents are being urged to lock their cars with a spate of reported thefts from vehicles.

Cars in Odessa Court, Carmarthen Close, Blueberry Court, Daphne Crescent, Torrens Street, Purchas Street, Kauri Court, Cherry Street and Orange Grove were broken into and various items stolen.

Senior Constable Fiona Reid said some cars had been left unlocked, while others had door locks forced or rubber seals on windows jemmied.

Items stolen included stereos, CD players, GPS equipment left attached to the windscreen, money and computers hidden under seats.

In one case, a firearm left inside a car overnight was stolen.

Senior Constable Reid said police could not stress enough the importance of locking cars, and making sure no valuables were left inside.

“Be vigilant and ensure your vehicle is properly secured. Install sensor lights at the front of your house if your vehicle has to be left in the driveway and consider car alarms.”
