GDFL: Werribee Centrals in pathetic effort

WERRIBEE Centrals were ducking for cover after their most insipid Geelong and District Football League Smiths Holden Cup outing in recent memory came at the most inopportune time in front of a packed Galvin Park on past players’ day on Saturday.

The Centurions are still shaking their heads following a 104-point thrashing at the hands of last year’s runner-up East Geelong, which leaves them at the foot of the table with a 0-2 record and with plenty of ground to make up.

The breakdown in the game plan, lack of accountability without the ball and failure to pressure the visitors in errors cost the Centurions dearly and will be a focus of first-year coach Luke Phipps in the lead-up to Saturday’s crucial round three trip to Inverleigh.

The Centurions managed just six goals and all were individual goalkickers.

They struggled to find a reliable avenue to goal. David Clonan, Michael Knight and Sean Murphy were serviceable on a disappointing day for the club.
