Helping hands for those in need

SOARING costs of living, rising utility bills and a tight rental squeeze means more Wyndham families are seeking handouts and help finding a home.

But some selfless residents, like Noelle and Tracey (pictured) are extending a hand to those doing it tough. UnitingCare Werribee Support and Housing chief executive Carol Muir said volunteers were the lifeblood of the community organisation.

Ms Muir says a team of dedicated volunteers assist with its op-shop, organise food vouchers, make food parcels, maintain its food pantry, attend to the gardening and general maintenance of the Duncans Road premises and act as drivers, distributing donated furniture to its needy clients.

Ms Muir has urged more people to make a contribution and she can be contacted on 97426452.
