A WYNDHAM art group is aiming to do something a little different by staging the city’s first portraiture and figurative art show.
Wyndham Community Arts Alliance will hold the exhibition next month, showcasing the work of its artists.
Life drawing student Daniella
Acciarito said the group felt figurative art was often forgotten .
“It is overshadowed by landscapes and fine arts,” she said.
“Most of the art shows tend to focus on Wyndham and the changes in Wyndham.”
The alliance has been operating life drawing classes for a couple of years and believes it is the only group in the municipality to do so.
Ms Acciarito, who often models for the classes, said the group was hesitant at first to hold such an art show because nobody else in Wyndham had attempted anything similar.
But she said the exhibition had the support of the alliance’s artists.
“Within our own little group it was an idea that was well received but until we hold it we won’t know what the community thinks.
“We want to promote our artists. We have a lot of artists in the area that do that sort of work and they have been searching for a long time for somewhere to display their work.
“It is important we showcase this kind of art.”
The show will be held from May 25-27 at Wyndham Art Works, 2/88 Sayers Road, Laverton North.
