Werribee brawl attackers facing legal action

THE father of a young man who was bashed unconscious outside a Werribee nightclub last month is planning legal action against his son’s attackers.

Terry McGovern said his 20-year-old son, who asked not to be named, was hospitalised after he stepped into a late-night brawl on Saturday, March 31, in the car park outside Watton Street’s Mynt Lounge to help protect a friend being kicked on the ground.

Several of the men involved, aged in their early-20s, then began punching and kicking his son, Mr McGovern said.

“As he went to drag his mate out of the fight, these guys jumped on him and bashed him, kicking him in the head,” Mr McGovern said.

He said a head-high blow had knocked his son unconscious and he had to be ferried to the Werribee Mercy Hospital for a brain scan.

He was kept at hospital overnight, and suffered headaches for up to a week later.

“We have been to the police, contacted our lawyer and are looking at criminal and civil action to be brought on the person or persons responsible,” he said.

“The senseless act could have resulted in the death of my son and his friend.”
