WERRIBEE Open Range Zoo has welcomed another king of the jungle to its animal family.
Eight-year-old male Johari, from Sydney’s Taronga Zoo, made the journey by plane inside a special animal transport crate, being met at the airport by zoo staff and ferried to his new home. Johari will remain in quarantine for several weeks, before being allowed to meet the three lions in the zoo’s Lions on the Edge exhibit.
A zoo spokeswoman said they were hopeful Johari would eventually breed with its lionesses. Details: zoo.org.au/werribeeopenrangezoo.
