NBN rollout: Tarneit, Wyndham Vale logged on

RESIDENTS without access to broadband internet have welcomed confirmation that Tarneit and Wyndham Vale are included in the next rollout of the National Broadband Network, but say they should be connected before 2015.

NBN Co recently announced the progressive rollout of the fibre network to 3.5million homes across the country over the next three years.

Werribee, Hoppers Crossing, Werribee South, Wyndham Vale and Tarneit will be connected to the NBN by June 30, 2015.

In Wyndham Vale, residents have been waiting at least five years to be connected to ADSL1.

Manor Lakes Residents Association vice president Deepak Goel said Wyndham Vale needed to be connected to the NBN as soon as possible because current infrastructure was not being upgraded. He believed the suburb would be unable to attract new businesses without decent internet services.

Prime Minister and Lalor MP Julia Gillard said the current copper internet network was choking economic opportunities because it was out of date and unable to provide many areas with high-speed broadband.

Wyndham mayor Kim McAliney said the rollout would boost the local economy by upgrading technology in the city’s main business areas.
