NO ONE will die on Wyndham’s roads on May 25 if Wyndham Council has its way.
The council has become the first council in Australia to sign up to Fatality Free Friday, an initiative which aims to ensure there are no deaths from Australian road accidents on Friday, May 25.
Mayor Kim McAliney signed a pledge on behalf of the council last week, vowing she would do all she could to promote road safety.
The campaign follows last year’s road safety forum, during which councillors, emergency services and road safety groups met to discuss ways to reduce Wyndham’s road toll.
Eleven people died on the municipality’s roads last year.
Cr McAliney said road safety was not just a police concern but an issue the entire community should take ownership of.
