POLICE will target Wyndham’s crime hot spots and make their presence known in coming weeks in a bid to tackle rising crime.
Wyndham police and the operations response unit will carry out highly-visible patrols in targetted areas.
Wyndham’s Inspector Cindy Millen said police would use intelligence data to decide which areas they would target.
“Members will be out in marked vehicles and on foot, saturating areas and proactively targeting recidivist offenders,” she said.
The patrols follow crime statistics which revealed residential burglaries increased by almost 30per cent in Wyndham in 2011.
As reported in the Weekly, there was a 34per cent increase in the number of robberies between 2010 and 2011 and a 14per cent rise in property damage.
Inspector Millen said police were working to lower the crime rate, but needed a collaborative effort from the community.
“We ask the community to assist us by reporting anything out of place or suspicious.”
