WDCA: Class tells as All Stars live up to their name

WESTERN All Stars have completed their mission to reign supreme in the Williamstown and District Cricket Association A grade matting.

The Werribee South-based All Stars faced a stern test from Melton Centrals in the grand final at Arndell Park but were a class above and won by 10 wickets.

The All Stars built a commanding 113-run lead on first innings after three-man show from Brad Todd (84), Gavin Shanks (71) and Blair Hemmingson (66) lifted the minor premiers to 317.

The bowlers got in the act as well, having Centrals all out for 204 in their first dig, thanks to three wickets apiece to Justin Davies and Adam Walls, and just 116 in the second innings, with Davies taking 7-54 to finish with 10 wickets for the match.

Four runs was all the All Stars needed to win the premiership and Todd and James Unstad brought it home without a blemish.

Meanwhile, Wyndhamvale is celebrating a flag in C grade matting after a comprehensive win over crosstown rivals Tarneit. Playing president Chris Plummer was in hot form with bat and ball, making 42 runs and taking 5-50 from a marathon 32 overs in the first innings.
