Celebrating diversity at zoo

DRUM band One Africa, henna tattoos and Middle Eastern dancing were among the sights and sounds at Cultural Diversity Week celebrations held at Werribee Open Range Zoo last Thursday.

More than 1000 people from different cultural backgrounds flocked to the A Day at the Zoo party hosted by City West Water, Parks Victoria and emergency services.

As part of the event, members from new and emerging communities across the western suburbs learned about the role of each of Victoria’s emergency services and when and how to contact them.

More than 25per cent of Wyndham residents were born in a non-English speaking country, with more than 100 languages other than English spoken.
