Wyndham Council is joining forces with Westgate General Practice Network and local indigenous outreach workers to help “close the gap” on indigenous health.
A forum on March 22 will aim to raise awareness of the health and well-being issues facing indigenous residents.
“While there is so much to celebrate about the wonderful indigenous community we have here in Wyndham, there are also a lot of health issues that need to be addressed,” Cr John Menegazzo said. “Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people can expect to live substantially shorter lives than other Australians, up to 17 years less in some case … these sorts of statistics are completely unacceptable in 2012.”
The forum is at Wayaperri House, 106 Duncans Road, Werribee. Details: 97420777
