Losing her locks is just a gesture of love

REBECCA Butcher has vowed to keep shaving her head until her best friend’s daughter recovers from leukaemia.

Isabelle, 2, was diagnosed with the life-threatening disease early last year.

Since the little girl’s diagnosis, Ms Butcher has shaved her head twice to raise money to help Isabelle’s family with medical expenses.

The Hoppers Crossing resident will again shave her head on March 15 for World’s Greatest Shave which highlights the impact of leukaemia.

“My grandad had oesophageal cancer, but it has hit home more this time because it is a child.”

“I’d do anything for [Isabelle]. I’d be lost if anything should happen to her,” says Ms Butcher.

“No child should pass away before their parents.”

As a mother of four, Ms Butcher says she understands some of what Isabelle’s family is going through and is amazed by their strength during Isabelle’s treatment.

She hopes to raise more money for the family through shaving her head, but realises many people are facing difficult financial times.

“We understand times are hard so we just want people to realise cancer can affect anyone.”
