Two Hoppers Crossing children have just received the ultimate Scout’s honour.
Wyndham City Salvation Army Scouts and Guides members Rhiana Gibson and Joshua Knight recently qualified for commissioner’s level, the highest available in their age group.
The two 10-year-olds have both been involved with the group for three years and are the first in two years to receive the honour.
Wyndham City’s Scouts and Guides are taught to tie knots, cook and go camping.
The group, which has 22 members aged five to 16, also encourages prayer and looking after your body by not taking drugs or other harmful subtances.
Rhiana, who is in grade 3 at Baden Powell College, said the pair had to collect five Southern Cross star badges to qualify for commissioner’s level.
The award is made all the more special because
Rhiana’s mum, Janette, also reached commissioner’s level when she was in the group.
“We’ve worked so hard for it, but it’s a lot of fun,” Rhiana said.
Joshua, who is in grade 3 at Heathdale Christian College, said he was thrilled to get to commissioner’s level.
He said his favourite scouting activity was cooking.
Scout leader Marianne Cooper said it was quite rare for children to reach commissioner’s level.
