June 11, 1975

Six people, including a 10-week-old baby, had lucky escapes when their cars crashed and burnt at Werribee on Saturday night. Occupants of the first car had to kick the door open after it jammed as a result of the impact. The accident happened on a notorious stretch of the Princes Highway, near the veterinary clinic.

Hoppers Crossing residents will be polled on whether they support a family tavern proposed for the Werribee Plaza shopping centre on Heaths Road. The poll was forced when two objectors collected a 61-signature petition against the tavern proposal.

Werribee South residents claim they are being terrorised by a pack of young men driving cars and motorcycles along narrow streets, endangering life and causing havoc for other road users. More than 60 residents have signed a petition to Wyndham City Council calling for a 25 km/h speed limit in residential streets in the area.

Fears of a worsening traffic snarl in the heart of Werribee has led Wyndham Council to knock back a multi-storey development as the city continues to grapple with issues around medium -density housing. The controversial proposal for a pair of three-storey blocks containing 30 units near the notorious Werribee and Cottrell streets intersection was rejected by councillors.
