Families moving to Wyndham’s west will be able to find childcare as a new centre will be ready to open early next year.
Construction of the centre, which will be part of the $1 billion Harpley estate on Black Forest Road, will be completed by the time the first residents move into the area, according to developers Lendlease.
The 435-hectare estate has been hailed as a suburb of the future because of plans to ensure that infrastructure is delivered at the same time as houses are built.
The development was given the green light last July after the then state government approved a
$533 million developer contribution plan for Wyndham’s west. This outlines how infrastructure will be funded.
Lendlease Victoria’s Neil O’Connor said the childcare centre, with places for 140 children, was an important first step on the road to Harpley becoming a connected, family-orientated community. Construction is expected to start in July.
“The community is designed to grow with its residents,” Mr O’Connor said.
“We are excited that the childcare centre will be ready to accommodate children as soon as the first residents move in.
“There are plans for the centre to be joined by a kindergarten, maternal and child health services, two primary schools and a secondary school,” he said.
Sports and recreation facilities and a town centre are also part of the Lendlease plan.
