Basketball

Werribee Devils snapped a 12-game losing streak in the men’s championship, with a gutsy 80-76 win over Diamond Valley at the Werribee Sports and Fitness Centre on Sunday. Darcy Harding produced his best game for the Devils, with 31 points and eight rebounds, while Jordan Hughes (19 points, five assists, five rebounds) and import David Cobb (11 points and 19 rebounds) were also influential. The Big V competition takes a break over the Queen’s birthday weekend.

Hockey

Werribee is on a roll in Hockey Victoria men’s Vic League 2. The Tigers’ 3-2 victory over St Bedes was their third in a row and they have pounced on second spot. Hot-shot Sam Huxtable fired in a hat-trick for the Tigers. In women’s Vic League 2, Werribee had a 2-all draw at Melton, with Lisa Ross and Chloe Pickersgill both on the scoresheet.

Netball

Werribee Centrals advanced to 7-0 in the GDFL with a comfortable 46-24 win over North Geelong at Galvin Park on Saturday. Ellie Tubbs was the focal point for the Centurions with 34 goals, while Madeline Hodgson netted 12. The Centurions should get a rare challenge when they face fourth-placed Thomson at home in a Queen’s birthday weekend special on Saturday.
