Werribee Districts have taken out bragging rights in their first local derby of the season, against Hoppers Crossing on Saturday.
The Tigers led at every change in the Western Region Football League division 1 match at Soldiers Reserve, recording a 29-point win and taking their biggest scalp of the young season.
Lachlan McDowell continued his sizzling start to the campaign and was named the Tigers’ best player for a fourth time.
Chris Molivas (three goals) and Ryan Harrington (two) were multiple goalkickers for the Tigers, who moved up to fourth on the ladder after hitting good form in recent weeks.
It was a minor setback for Hoppers Crossing, which has been impressive this season. The Warriors remain third despite a second loss.
Mohamad El Hawli (three goals) and Wayde Skipper (two) were the Warriors’ only forward threats.
In division 2, Wyndhamvale had no stage fright under Saturday night’s lights, rolling rivals Manor Lakes Storm by 29 points.
The Falcons’ fitness came through in the second half as they kicked seven goals to three for a runaway win. Kieran Morrison was judged best for the Falcons, while Chris Benson kept his goalkicking magic with three majors.
The Falcons go into the Queen’s birthday break a game clear on top, while the Storm are down in fifth.
In GDFL, Werribee Centrals were no match for North Geelong, losing by 43 points.
The Centurions will be one of the few local footy teams in action on Queen’s birthday weekend, hosting Thomson at Galvin Park on Saturday.
