Wyndham gets youth medical clinic

A medical clinic will be set up at the Wyndham Youth Resource Centre to provide young people with better access to health services.

The clinic, a partnership between the Wyndham council and Derrimut Road Health Clinic, will offer youth-friendly medical services for Wyndham residents aged between 12 and 25.

Wyndham is home to more than 32,167 young people, with the number of residents aged between 12 and 25 expected to grow to 50,000 by 2031.

Council’s youth portfolio holder Marie Brittan said the service would ensure young people had access to health services in a friendly environment.

The clinic is being established after young people in the municipality raised concerns about the lack of youth-friendly health services in the area.

Cr Brittan said many of the young people who contacted the council said that they felt uncomfortable seeking health services.

“Wyndham city is the largest provider of youth services in Wyndham and we’re committed to ensuring that young people have access to timely and responsive medical and sexual health services,” she said.

The clinic will be at 86 Derrimut Road, Hoppers Crossing. Services will initially be available from 2-5pm every second Tuesday and will be bulk-billed and confidential.
