These shoes were made for walking and that’s just what they did.
The Grange P-12 College students Angelina, Lucas and Mia were among thousands of Wyndham students who took to the streets – or rather, the footpaths – in their droves last Friday for Walk Safely to School Day, an annual event that aims to raise awareness of road and pedestrian safety, as well as promoting the benefits of exercise.
Transport Accident Commission figures show 156 school-aged pedestrians and cyclists were killed or seriously injured in Victoria over the past five years between school pick-up and drop-off times.
Wyndham councillor Glenn Goodfellow said it was important for kids to learn the Stop, Look, Listen and Think principles so that they can walk or cycle to school safely.
“By setting a good example and teaching them how to cross a road safely, parents can feel comfortable letting them walk to school on their own when they are older,” he said.
